Is it suitable for spoon bending?
A lot of people use it for that. But it's not intended for that. A much better tool is the Pepetools Ring Shank Bender. This is better for tougher and thicker material. see below, Dave pepetools.com/discount/CELTIC?redirect=/products/ring-shank-bending-tool#?aff=4
Золотые руки у вас.👍🔥
Вообще-то серебро. Спасибо за просмотр. Dave
Thank you so much for this helpful video. I have some of these wraptite settings, & never used them, but I will now!..they look lovely
Perhaps not as secure as other methods, but very quick and easy to do. enjoy, Dave
I eventually got it! It took me a while to figure it out left handed style, and it turns out I was using the wrong aspect ratio. heheh. Thanks very much for teaching me this weave. I'm really satisfied with how smooth and snakelike it is.
If you see my video on the byzantine, i explain the importance of the aspect ratio, its makes all the difference. Thanks for watching. Dave ruclips.net/video/OmNRbWeKASM/видео.htmlsi=f4Sm9S4sF2RVVlAE
Nice ide. Make some money clip grom coin
I think I understand what you are saying. Thanks for watching. Dave
Awesome and fascinating tutorial! And you are a great instructor 😊
Thank you for the lovely words Elizabeth. Thanks for watching and taking the time to say Hi. kind regards, Dave
Absolutely astounding amount of detail. You're a legend!
Thanks, I hope you found it useful and informative. Thanks for watching. Dave
Hi Dave. Will these work on a lightly scratched silver mens watch bracelet ? Or is there a different method? thanks
If the item is lightly scratched, then polishing is the way to go.. Se my video here on polishing a mens bracelet...Dave ruclips.net/video/Iv6NNClZdNU/видео.htmlsi=1pRIm73sJgZZeoR7
What is hot errr?
It's "Hot Air", but with a strong Northern English accent. ; ) Thanks for watching, Dave
Hi again mate It’s been a month with my roller now and I’m still struggling to get down to 1.5mm wire When I get down to the 2mm track and I’ve finished tightening all the way down My wire looks to wide for the next track size down being 1.5mm Can I ask how can I sort this please ? I’m needing 1.5mm wire or even 1mm to make a chain What am I doing wrong
If you've got the same roller, I believe the 2nd groove is 1.5mm square. The trick is to keep turning the wire 90 degrees each pass. squash it top and bottom and it becomes slightly "diamond" shape. you then turn it 90 degrees and its becomes square. so always run it though twice, on each setting, once, turn 90 degrees then again. only then reduce the rollers. Also I only reduce the rollers ½ turn each time. When fully down, again run the bar through a couple of times rotating 90 degrees to ensure it is full square before moving to the next. Oh and remember the all important thing - keep annealing your wire to prevent of getting work hardened and brittle. (dark room, heat to cherry red, allow to cool to black, then quench in water) Hope this all makes sense. Dave
Hi great video so informative. I have a few gold plated diamond rings l. How do i replate ? I am presuming degreese first then the same technique as you done with the coin ? My silly brain was saying i would need to remove all diamonds then reolate the piece then re insert all the diamonds. Surely that cant be correct.
Yes using a pen plater, you can touch up a ring. As you say, ensure it is perfectly clean first, ultrasonic, alcohol, and avoid greasy fingers. The plating will only apply to the metal, not the stones. No need to remove them. Dave
Quick question alsonif I may. Do I need to solder the links whilst making? So obviously the silver ones use silver solder. And copper use copper solder rod. ? Sorry I amnbrand new ti jewellery making and trying to educate myself. If I let my health and the NHS dictate my life I would spend my days in bed solely I have 13 medical worries 4 of which major. And I suffer pain 24-7 and have zilch energy. Trouble is my brain is healthy and fast etc for a man of 34, she should be. So I've got all these deigns I want to do. And will do over many days as I very rarely get a good day. So im taking notes on everything I want to learn ready for making what I decide. Ove set up my greenhouse with about £2000 worth of jewellery making equipment ready you see. So im learning basics right now no solder required just manual labour. But will be moving onto solder soon as i want to try making my very own chain maybe my favourite byzantine. Or this one in video so so pretty. Thanm you so much for sharing it. Kirt
Hi Kirt, Sorry to hear of your illnesses. The first thing to say is that with the correct ratio rings, you don't ned to solder it. I do however solder (or weld) the two big rings, as these are what really hold it all together under tension. But its not vital. When making a full Persian chain or byzantine, as long as you stick top the suggested ratio then you should need to weld or solder. I have a pulse welder, but this is really for finish and joining the jump rings rather than any structural advantage. Soldering silver, yes use hard silver solder. Copper is a tricky one and much debated on jewellery forums. Silver solder is perfect, but of course is visible. I did manage to find some copper solder (very very hard to find), but to be honest the colour doesn't match perfectly, as its a soldering alloy going on pure copper wire, so its never going to match (but its better then silver on copper). However with my welder, there is no solder, so either metal will weld invisibly when finished. Hope this helps. Dave
Wow oh my goodness that looks absolutely stunning i love the colour combination. Thank you so much for sharing
You are so welcome.i hope I have inspired you to have a go. Dave
Last time I tried this weave I cried 😭 thank you ❤ I got it now
Great, glad I could help. Enjoy your new skills. Dave
💗hi I'm from Sri Lanka.🐦 have added beauty to your video 😊❤❤
Greetings. Thanks for watching, Dave
Great video, thanks for going through all the trouble. You make it sound so simple, I’ll give it a go!
Easy when you know how. many people have sent me pics of what they have done. So yes, you can do it. Thanks for watching, Dave.
I’m making a full Persian chain with fine silver .999. Can you put FS in a tumbler with stainless shot or is there a better media to use with the FS? Thanks
Yes, I use a tumbler for my chains. it cleans and polishes, removed burs and also work hardens the rings to make them tougher. Best tool for the job ! Dave.
BEST jewelry metal cutting video ever!! There are many videos demonstrating a cutting "technique" on RUclips but yours is the first that advises to keep the metal on the right, cutting on the left side of the piece!!...My cutting always create curled, burry, edges about midway through, as I ignorantly scissor my way along the right side of the circle...Hammering this mess out gets me close but is obviously (now) not the correct way to achieve a clean cut. At all. Thank you...thank you...thank you
We all take the simple route (myself included) But I did a lot of research for this video, and what I discovered made sense. So passing it on. Thanks for watching. Dave
Did u use the second polishing paste? 600 grit> buff with menzerna 2nd cut > anything after?
Nothing else, exactly as you see it, 600 grit emery, Menzerna Intensive polish, The first polish gets you 99% there. and really the yellow super finish, its just the last 1%. Once polished its just soapy water to clean of the grease, thats it. No secrets, just as you see it. Dave.
I am a total beginner, I have silver plated spoons and still can’t seem to bend them with this product. Do you have to heat them up first?
Good lord no. You will destroy the plating. There is a much bettr tool for spoon bending, the ring shank bender, see the link below. Dave pepetools.com/discount/CELTIC?redirect=/products/ring-shank-bending-tool#?aff=4
Thank you
You're welcome. Dave
oh my god it's you the video the cross amazingly beautiful. ..... I tried to find the materials but I couldn't find them in these dimensions. I would appreciate it if you could recommend a store. .....Thank you for making these videos for us
A lot of people ask this. I make my own jump rings. It is important to keep the sizes and dimensions exact. Easy to do, just wrap the wire around a bar or dowel (the right size) and use a jewellers saw to cut the rings. You can also use a pair of flush cutters, but sawing is better. Logts of tips in my jump ring blog below. Dave pepetools.com/blogs/news/aspect-ratio-the-magic-number-for-making-perfect-jump-rings-and-chains
One point you did not mention, but needs to be mentioned: Eyeprotection!
Yes indeed, good point. ! hugely important when using any such power tools, bits fly off. Depending on what you are doing, a dust mask is also important especially when sanding or grinding. Thanks, Dave
Thanks sir
Thanks for watching, Dave. ; )
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for watching, Dave. ; )
Soap and water does a fine job with a fiber cloth to dry
Indeed i use soapy water all the time, I use "everything" and these pens are great at getting into the little details under claws and around stones, where a cloth cant quite get to. Thanks for watching, Dave. ; )
Are the included cutting discs good for cutting thin metal or should I buy separate metal cutting disks?
The thin discs are very brittle, the larger reinforced discs are a lot more robust. But ask yourself would a jewellers saw or hacksaw work, or even tin shears? Depends what you are trying to do. Dave
I pour 1 ounce silver bars into a mold. Some of my buyers want the bottom of the bar perfectly smooth. Would I start with 600 grit sandpaper? I tried using different compounds and they don't take out the "deep" scratches. Thank you.
I make ingots, but I cast them vertically in an adjustable ingot mold (below), to get both sides flat. Then yes I sand on a sheet of emery, taped to a flat surface.
I just wanted to say a big thank you for this review! It's very helpful and now that I finally have the Fretz sharp texture hammer, I’m enjoying experimenting using the techniques you demonstrated in your video. Thanks again!
Glad I helped. i personally love the sharp one too lovely bark effect. Thanks Dave.
trying to find cheap but good regulaters
A lot of people ask this. Check out your local welding supplier, they got me sorted out with regulators and apertures etc. Plus the oxygen cylinder. Important to get the double gauges which will show you the outgoing pressure (important for correct use of your torch) and also the pressure in the tank (know when its running out). Hope this helps, Dave
Oh!! So I have to buy that machine?????
The important thing is the 600 grit emery and the Menserna polish. My large bench polisher is simply an old bench grinder I bought from a flea market for a couple of pounds and put "pigtail" adapters on it to use mops. I also have a smaller bench polisher for jewellery (not expensive), or you can use some small cotton mops in a Dremel or similar cheap rotary tool. Just anything to take the effort out of the polishing. hope this helps, Dave
Got me a Amazon knock off kit for 112$ American. My friend has the Pepe one. They both work the same.Next im getting the Ring Stretcher.
They probably do work the same, but here's the thing... The guys at Pepe, have spent years developing their tools, designing and testing them. Then spending a fortune on machines and tooling to make them. After all their hard work, other companies in. China (and the UK) simply come along a copy all their designs, effectively stealing their sales income. and cashing in on Pepe's marketing, research and development. I Have known and worked with the guys at Pepetools for many years, helping to test tools and demonstrate them. I've seen first hand the work that goes into them, but more importantly Ive seen the passion that Tony and son David have for what they do, their tools their company and their employees. It is a very genuine family business run by genuine and honest guys, who are passionate about what they do. And I can say with some conviction that there aren't many companies with such moral standards. So every time you buy a copy tool, you are stealing income from the people who designed it. sorry....Just my 10c. P.s. want the ring stretcher? use the link below to buy direct from Pepetools, use the code CELTIC to get a discount, and I also get a small commission too. Thanks. Dave pepetools.com/discount/CELTIC?redirect=/products/upright-ring-stretcher#?aff=4
Muchas gracias por tu contenido
gracias. Dave
where can i buy the pieces to try by myself??
As shown you can make your own jump rings. or there are lots of sellers on line. ebay etsy etc plus the big jewellery suppliers (if you want silver ones). Just remember the aspect ratio... The inside diameter is 3.5 times the wire thickness. Dave
Thank you for the perfect video to my start of making cahin! Ill be practicing to make some wallet chain. I was wondering when you said 18gauge what the inner diameter should be? I really appreciate it!
18g AWG (1mm) so use an inside diameter of 5.5mm this will give a ratio of 5.5 which is perfect. Dave
Hello, I’ve been looking for an alternative torch to my sievert and mini propane versions. Your video was great thanks. One question is where to you get the oxygen tanks and how do you refil them please? 🙏
Here in the UK there is chain of suppliers called "Hobby weld" at various welding suppliers. you buy a cylinder and then just pay for refills (swaps). for the small home studio this is cheaper than paying contracts with big suppliers. There are other companies too that do this. Google your local welding suppliers. They should also be able to fix you up with regulators and flashback arrestors, mine did, all sorted in one shop. Hope this helps. Dave
This is absolutely amazing! Thank you for the tutorial, beautiful bracelet.
Thanks for watching. Dave
River stone - rocks cutting possible ? … and what blade ?
"Rocks" can mean anything, so a very vague question. Different rocks will have different hardnesses. You can get diamond coated discs and drills which will work on small pieces. I sometimes drill polished stones for pendants. Usually placing the stone in a tub of water and keeping the tip of the drill wet. Hope this helps, Dave
Thanks for this info
Thanks for watching. Dave
Your sweater/jumper either has significant sentimental value, never leaves your shop due to frugality, or all of the above. I respect both options equally greatly. Thank you for showing me how beautiful art is made sir.
Good observation. Yes this is my 'work' sweater. The issue comes with using acid pickle, the smallest drop, or splash and the fabric slowly rots. It's a strange phenomenon. Even though the sweater is regularly washed, it continues to rot. It happened before with a cotton work shirt. So beware of pickle. Dave.
Haha! Love it! I use the rubber mat for cutting boards as well. Fantastic tutorial. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching, Dave
Would you normally solder the joints on the jump rings or would this just take way too much time?
With slightly thicker wire, say 1.2mm you don't need to. In my case I have a welder, so will weld all the rings after completion (takes about an hour). This is more for neatness and finish, rather than strength. But I realise not everyone has a welder. It is 'fairly' simple to solder the rings after completion if you wish. Dave
Very 👍
Thanks for watching, Dave
what does the "4000" stand for in the name?
This is actually the 3000 But it's just a model number. I don't believe it refers to anything specific - just a name. Thanks for watching, Dave
Bet PEPE would sell more if they didn't rape people on initial price
Simple and clear video, many thanks just got a Dremel not actually used it yet but watching a few videos for tips etc before I do.
Check out "Dremel 3000 full review" in which i show some of the accessories. Thanks for watching, Dave
We bought fake gold jewelry on Carnival it tarnished after a month we should have known for$50.00 a chain😔😔😔
Sorry to hear that, but hopefully my tips will help people avoid being ripped off in the future. Thanks for watching, Dave
Hi from Canada I always look at the price too I doubt you would get silver for $9.00😊😊😊
Exactly. as they say, 'if it's too good to be true'.... Thanks for watching, Dave
I was scanning the comments and one mentioned the birds and the tranquility of your little corner of the world. I hit on your post and saw that baby bird. It looked like a Dunnok. What great timing for you yeah? Guess you answered his question right grandly !!
Dunnok? I'll have to look that up. I just assumed it was a sparrow (or finch). But my knowledge is limited. Thanks for watching, Dave
